During the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, emphasized six essential traits that youths must embrace to achieve leadership and success.
In his lecture titled The Lord’s Doing: Youths Stepping into Destiny, Popoola highlighted that youths are crucial to the future of any society, and within the church, they play an important role in the ongoing growth and development of both spiritual and social activities.
He outlined the six key traits that will guide youths on their journey to leadership: self-control, humility, resilience, responsibility, mentorship, and moral values. Popoola urged the youth to cultivate these traits as they step into their destined roles.
He stated, “For our youths to continue making meaningful contributions to the success of the church and society, they need to imbibe useful behavioural traits, avoid contemporary vices often associated with youth, and develop effective communication skills as a habit.
“The first quality that youths need to cultivate is self-control. This refers to the restraint one exercises in the face of unpleasant situations. Adults and church leaders must serve as role models for young people by exemplifying self-control.
“Humility is the quality of having a modest or balanced view of one’s importance. A humble individual respects others and avoids arrogance. Leaders in the church can encourage young people to develop humility by helping them adopt a balanced perspective about themselves.”
Prof Popoola urged the youths of the Diocese to adopt these qualities, stressing that doing so would enable them to avoid destructive habits and achieve meaningful success with less stress.
