Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, has announced the commencement of the 2024 yuletide vacation for judges, set to begin on December 16, 2024. According to a circular issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the vacation will conclude on Monday, January 6, 2025, with court sessions resuming nationwide on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The break, outlined under Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended), allows vacation judges to handle only urgent cases, including matters related to the enforcement of fundamental rights, issues of national interest, and the arrest or release of vessels.
During this period, only the core judicial divisions—Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt—will remain open to address litigation needs throughout the vacation.
The roster for vacation judges is as follows – “The Abuja judicial division -Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice M. S. Liman will serve as vacation judges.
“LAGOS division Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu and in Port-Harcourt division -Justice P. M. Ayua and Justice A. T. will serve as vacation judges.”
