Tinubu Postpones FEC Meeting Following Lagbaja’s Death

President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially scheduled for Wednesday to a date that will be announced later.

“Initially scheduled for today, the council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night,” Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced on Wednesday.

The statement was titled, ‘Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting.’

After announcing the postponement at the Council Chamber, Vice President Kashim Shettima led other council members in observing a minute’s silence in honour of the late Army Chief.

Shettima also announced that ministers would proceed to Tinubu’s official residence to pay him a condolence visit, saying, “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do.”

“The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will convene all of you at the residence,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces following the passing of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja. The president honored Lt. General Lagbaja’s significant contributions to Nigeria and expressed wishes for his eternal peace.

Lt. General Lagbaja, who served as Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his death on November 5, 2024, was recognized for his dedicated service. In his memory, President Tinubu directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days.
