Polling stations in eight U.S. states, including Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, and Virginia, opened at 6 a.m. ET on Election Day. In Indiana and Kentucky, polls in the Eastern time zone also began operating at 6 a.m. ET, while those in the central time zone will open an hour later at 7 a.m. ET.
Most polling locations in Maine opened at 6 a.m. ET as well, though smaller towns with populations under 500 are permitted to start as late as 10 a.m. ET.
In New Hampshire’s Dixville Notch, the tradition of midnight voting continued, where the township cast its votes early. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump each received three votes, resulting in a tie.
