Low Voter Turnout Recorded in Kano LG Polls

The Kano State Local Government elections on Saturday saw a notably low voter turnout, particularly in Kano metropolis and surrounding areas.

Our correspondent observed delays in the start of voting in several locations due to the late arrival of election materials, with some polling centers, such as the History and Culture Bureau, still waiting for materials as of 10:44 a.m.

While voting commenced on time at Tarauni PHC, where three polling units are situated, turnout remained low overall. In contrast, the Gandun Albasa Special Primary School, which hosts 21 polling units, saw a sizable number of voters queuing to cast their ballots.

Despite earlier concerns, many voters expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of residents throughout the electoral process.

“Many people anticipated crisis during the election but thank God it’s peaceful,” one of the voters said.

Also commenting on the election, another voter said he was happy the election was generally peaceful as many residents complied with the order on restriction of movement.

Also speaking, a presiding Officer, polling unit 002, at Gandun Albasa, Tajuddeen Uba, said voting commenced some minutes after 8:00 am and the election was peaceful as voters turned out and cast their votes in a peaceful and orderly manner.
