President Bola Tinubu will still scrap more ministries and parastatals to deepen the reforms he has initiated, Iwitnesslive has learnt.
The President carried out a cabinet reshuffle yesterday, which led to the ministries of sports and Niger Delta with five ministers being sacked and seven reassigned new portfolios.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced that his office is collaborating closely with the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to implement the presidential directive regarding the merger and winding down of certain ministries.
In a statement issued in Abuja last night, Akume confirmed that necessary directives for implementing the president’s approval have been issued.
“All handover and takeover processes must be completed on or before Wednesday, October 30, 2024. In cases where there are no ministers to assume control, outgoing ministers should hand over to the permanent secretaries.
The coordinated efforts for the seamless merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, as well as the winding down of the defunct Ministry of Sports Development, are being managed by the Offices of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation,” he stated.
Akume also indicated that the renaming and expansion of the mandate of the defunct Ministry of Niger Delta Development will take immediate effect. He mentioned that the supervising authorities and commissions under the new ministry have been duly notified.
“Permanent secretaries are instructed to ensure a seamless implementation of these changes and to forward a copy of each handover note to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for record-keeping,” he concluded.
