The Sokoto State Ministry of Health says cases of Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis, commonly known as Apollo is in the increase in recent weeks in the state.
The State Commissioner of the ministry Hajiya Asabe Balarabe stated this in a statement issued by the PRO of the ministry Nura Bello Maikwanci on Wednesday.
She said the symptoms of the disease include sudden on set of red eyes, swelling pain and watery discharge which spread rapidly through contact with infected individuals and contaminated surfaces.
Balarabe said as part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease, the ministry has been advising people to adhere to preventive measures.
These she said include ensuring good hygiene, avoid sharing personal items, disinfect common surfaces, ensuring social distancing and avoid touching the eyes.
She further said the ministry is actively monitoring the situation and enjoined people to always report to the ministry on out break of any disease for prompt action.
