Family Planning Advocates for Law on Pre-Marriage Certificatess

Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, National Chairman for the Advancement of Family Planning, has called for legislation requiring couples to obtain a medical certificate from a certified authority before marriage.

During the Devcoms/TCI Sokoto Media roundtable at Dankani Guest Hotel, Jabbi urged Ulamas to request medical certificates from couples before performing marriages.

This measure would help Sokoto catch up with other states in this regard.

According to Jabbi, this certification would ensure that couples undergo essential family planning education and counseling to prepare them for responsible parenthood.

The proposed law aims to promote healthy family dynamics, reduce population growth, and enhance national development.

Jabbi, also the District Head of Gagi, emphasized the need for this law due to the prevalence of maternal, HIV, and other related diseases in the state.

Also,Sokoto State WDC Chairman, Comrade Bala Gadanga, supported the initiative, stating that such laws would help achieve a healthier society.

According to him, the proposed law would  ensure couples undergo family planning education and counseling and achieve healthy family dynamics.

The legislation aims to promote responsible parenthood and reduce population growth.

They emphasized the importance of providing adequate family planning resources to make services easily accessible.

Dr. Tukur Magaji, representative of the Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency, highlighted that 826 hospitals across the state offer free contraceptive services.

According to him, 826 hospitals throughout Sokoto State offer complimentary contraceptive services to married couples.

A team from The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and Development Communications (DEVCOMS) Network, led by the State TCI Manager Dr. Bello Mohammed Kilgore and supported by Hajiya A’sha, educated participants on child birth spacing.

The session focused on the significance, challenges, and solutions related to child birth spacing.

Dr. Kilgore and Hajiya A’sha provided valuable insights, addressing concerns and offering practical advice.
