Kylian Mbappé, who has been reportedly linked to a rape investigation in Sweden, will address the matter with the Swedish justice system “if necessary,” according to a statement from his lawyer on Thursday.
“He prioritises providing his explanations, if required, to the Swedish judiciary,” Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard told AFP.
The lawyer strongly condemned “media allegations suggesting that Kylian Mbappé had commented on the events of his trip to Stockholm.”
French daily *Le Parisien* and *RMC Sports* reported on Thursday that Kylian Mbappé, the France and Real Madrid striker, had consensual sex with a young woman during his recent trip to Sweden. According to the outlets, Mbappé has messages from the woman that describe their encounter in a positive light, indicating mutual consent. However, *Le Parisien* could not confirm if the complainant in the rape investigation is the same woman who sent those messages.
Mbappé visited Stockholm with friends from October 9 to 11, after being sidelined from the French national team due to a thigh injury. Swedish media reported that the group dined at a restaurant and visited a nightclub. Following their departure, a woman reported to the police, claiming she was raped.
On Monday, after Swedish newspaper *Aftonbladet* revealed that a rape investigation had been launched, Mbappé condemned the report as “fake news” on social media. He suggested the accusations might be linked to his financial dispute with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain. A hearing on the matter was held on Tuesday.
“It’s becoming so predictable, the day before the hearing, as if by coincidence,” Mbappé wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
A Swedish prosecutor has confirmed that an investigation has been opened but has not named Mbappé.
Lawyer Canu-Bernard told AFP on Tuesday that the 2018 World Cup winner was “at ease” because “he has done nothing wrong.”
