Ikeja Electric Announces Another Power Grid Collapse

Following Monday evening’s national electricity grid collapse, Ikeja Electric has announced another system failure that has further affected power distribution within its network. The company made this known through a statement posted on its official X.com account on Tuesday.

In the announcement, Ikeja Electric assured its customers that efforts are being made, in collaboration with key stakeholders, to restore power supply as soon as possible. The company expressed its commitment to resolving the situation efficiently.

It read, “Dear esteemed customer, Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today, 15/10/2024, @09:17hrs, affecting supply within our network.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

Reports indicate that the national grid collapsed around 6:18 pm on Monday, plunging many areas into darkness. Data showed that power generation decreased from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 pm to 3.56GW at 6 pm, before dropping to zero by 7 pm and 8 pm.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the incident in a statement, acknowledging the grid collapse and its impact on the electricity supply. The situation has left many Nigerians frustrated, as this marks the sixth collapse of the grid in 2024.
