National grid collapses again

Many states in Nigeria  have been thrown into darkness  on Monday following the collapse of the national grid.

Some of the affected states include, Lagos, and other western states, states in the north, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi,  Enugu, and Imo States.

It was learnt that the only states that were not affected are those within Port Harcourt axis.

The grid collapse was confirmed by Head, Corporate Communications, The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), Mr. Emeka Ezeh, in a notice to the customers of the electricity distribution company (DisCo) titled: ‘Notice of general system collapse.’

He explained that the  system collapse  occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October, 2024 and  resulted in the loss of power supply.

Ezeh said: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October, 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across EEDC network.

“Consequently, due to this development, all our interface Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra,  Ebonyi,  Enugu, and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”

But TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said the collapse was partial and not total or general.

She stated that customers within Port Harcourt franchise have power but that other customers were affected by grid collapse.

She, however, said TCN was in the process of recovering power, adding that more details would be released after the recovery.
