The University of Benin has appointed Dr. Victor Nnam, a former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, as an Associate Professor.
The appointment was announced in a letter signed by the university’s Deputy Registrar, Mrs. T. M. Omage-Umeh, on Tuesday. Dr. Nnam was honored for his significant contributions to academia and public service.
Following his tenure as commissioner, Nnam, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Geo-informatics and Surveying, devoted his time to teaching and mentoring students at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, often doing so without charge.
In response to the appointment, Nnam expressed his gratitude to the university’s management for the recognition.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and grateful for the opportunity to contribute my expertise to UNIBEN. Education is my passion, and I look forward to inspiring the next generation of geo-informatics professionals,” he said in an interview with our correspondent.
Nnam emphasized his commitment to advancing the field of geo-informatics and fostering collaboration between academic institutions and public service sectors.
He noted that he aims to leverage his experience in governance to enhance the academic curriculum and provide students with practical insights into the application of geo-informatics in urban planning and development.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen the Department of Geo-informatics, enriching the learning environment for students.
