Security operatives were strictly enforcing the no-movement order issued by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun on Saturday morning as the Edo State governorship election commenced.
A combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army personnel were visible on major streets in Benin City, ensuring compliance with the directive. On Ekhewan Road, some vehicles were turned back, while those carrying journalists were thoroughly checked before being allowed to proceed.
Key areas such as portions of Ringroad, Sakponba Road, and Ihama Road, particularly where voting was scheduled, were cordoned off.
Several residents were seen walking to their polling units and were stopped by security officers for questioning to verify their intentions.
One resident, Adesuwa, commented on the heightened security presence, stating that although it seemed excessive, it was a positive measure to prevent hoodlums from disrupting the election.
