The Borno State Police Command has issued a set of post-flood guidelines to address the aftermath of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, shared that the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusufu, emphasized the need for caution and vigilance in managing potential hazards after the disaster.
“The Command is working closely with relevant agencies to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, prevent criminal activities, and support rescue operations for those affected by the flood,” the statement read.
As part of the guidelines, residents of Maiduguri are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to authorities. They are also advised to avoid flooded areas to minimize the risk of waterborne diseases and accidents. The public should be cautious of potential looting or theft in affected areas.
In addition, residents are encouraged to cooperate with emergency responders and humanitarian workers and to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of misinformation.
The police command emphasized the importance of remaining calm and alert during this post-flood period. For emergencies, residents can contact the police through the following numbers: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
