The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi has publicly disassociated itself from a fraudulent social media account claiming to represent the university’s vice-chancellor, Sani Kunya.
This clarification was made in a press release on Monday by the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa. The university emphasized that the fake account is not affiliated with the institution or its leadership, warning the public to be cautious and avoid engaging with such deceptive platforms.
The statement reads “The attention of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, is drawn by a good samaritan, to a fake Facebook account opened in his name, obviously with the sole intent to scam innocent persons.
“A screenshot of a transaction with the good samaritan revealed a direct attempt to lure the person into surrendering a handsome amount of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.
“Given this, it has become necessary to alert the general public, especially our stakeholders, that the Acting Vice Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction with anyone on social media, nor demand any financial favour for any purpose whatsoever.”
Zailani added that the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a Facebook account and has instructed no one to manage any social media account on his behalf.
