The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards have wrapped up, delivering a series of notable wins and surprises. “Hacks” emerged as the night’s standout comedy series, clinching the top award despite strong competition from “The Bear,” which set a new record for the most Primetime Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year with 11 awards.
In the drama category, FX’s “Shōgun,” a historical epic based on James Clavell’s novel, dominated the evening. The series secured an impressive 18 Emmys, including the award for drama series. “Shōgun” had already made history at the Creative Arts Emmys by breaking the record for the most Emmys won by a series in a single year, further adding to its tally on Sunday.
The limited series category saw a big win for Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” a dark British drama about a bartender and aspiring comedian named Donny Dunn, who becomes the target of a stalker. The series won Best Limited Series, and its creator, Richard Gadd, took home awards for both writing and acting in a limited series. Jessica Gunning also won for her role as the stalker in “Baby Reindeer.” The series is based on Gadd’s autobiographical one-man show of the same name.
