Afrobeat star Davido took the spotlight in Ethiopia during the country’s New Year celebrations for 2017, a festival known as Enkutatash.
Ethiopia follows a different calendar system from the Gregorian one, with the country’s New Year falling on September 11 (or September 12 in leap years) due to a different calculation of the birth of Jesus Christ, which is considered to have occurred seven or eight years later than in the Western calendar.
Davido’s electrifying performance was a major highlight of the festive occasion, with fans in Ethiopia embracing his music with great enthusiasm, further fueling the excitement of the holiday.
Following the event, Davido shared his thoughts on social media, writing, “Ethiopia last night was amazing!!”
Nigerians reacted humorously to a viral video of the event, joking that Davido had “traveled back in time” to perform, referencing the calendar difference between Ethiopia and the rest of the world.
