Police Arrest Six Suspected Kidnappers, Seize Over N2.3M Ransom

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended six suspected kidnappers and recovered over N2.3 million in ransom money paid by their victims.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwanda Olufemi, made this known on Thursday while parading 16 suspects involved in various criminal activities.

He highlighted the command’s recent successes under his leadership and outlined plans to enhance police visibility and conduct raids on black spots and criminal hideouts across the state’s 25 local government areas.

He said, “Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Ebrumede Division, while on patrol, intercepted a tricycle carrying six passengers.

“Upon sighting the police, the suspects attempted to escape, but the operatives pursued and arrested them. A search revealed N2,344,000 in ransom money and some suspected stolen phones.

“Further investigation revealed that the phones belonged to kidnapping victims, and the money was part of the ransom paid for their release.”

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwanda Olufemi, revealed that the command’s anti-kidnapping squad conducted a sting operation in the Umunede forest, leading to the rescue of two individuals kidnapped along the Asaba-Benin Expressway. Acting on credible intelligence, the police closed in on the kidnappers, who abandoned their victims and fled.

Olufemi also expressed concern over the widespread use of hard drugs in the state. He reported that the command’s Dragon Patrol team, during a stop-and-search operation on the Asaba-Agbor Expressway, intercepted 39-year-old Jammed Abdulahi Shola in a green Toyota vehicle. A search of the car led to the discovery of 320 packs of codeine, 125 sachets of tramadol, and a large quantity of other illicit drugs.
