The Tsamiya Dry Port in Kebbi State opened a clearing office in Kano State on Thursday to boost business activities in Northern Nigeria.
During the commissioning of the Kano trade office, the Controller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi—represented by the Zone B Comptroller, Sambo Dangaladima—highlighted that this initiative represents a significant step towards reopening the Segbana-Tsamiya border in Kebbi State.
He mentioned that in May 2024, a high-level Nigerian delegation met with their counterparts from the Benin Republic to discuss the reopening of the border to expedite the operationalization of the border post.
He said, “The establishment of this trade office in Kano, a major commercial hub underscores the importance of the state as a key centre of commerce.
“It highlights the importance of streamlining business processes in the region, including the establishment of an export terminal to support local industries.”
Reaffirming the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) commitment to implementing and enforcing government policies to foster economic growth and development, the Controller-General urged the business community to ensure proper tax payments and maintain sincerity in their business practices.
In his remarks, Col. Idriso Imorou, the Director of the Corporation of Customs in Benin, assured that Customs in Benin would ensure that goods passing through the Tsamiya border are securely handled and processed without unnecessary delays.
