Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has taken significant steps to protect himself from the backlash he’s facing on social media.
The Napoli striker disabled comments on his Instagram account following criticism over an alleged donation of N3 million to popular crossdresser Bobrisky.
The controversy began when Bobrisky revealed he had received substantial donations from various male celebrities and fans.
Osimhen’s reported contribution of N3 million sparked widespread outrage, leading fans to voice their displeasure on social media. In response, Osimhen chose to lock his Instagram comments to shield himself from the flood of negative reactions.
The uproar extended to Nigerian music legend Don Jazzy, who also faced a storm of criticism after Bobrisky disclosed that he had received a significant donation from him.
Enraged fans flooded Don Jazzy’s social media pages with attacks after Bobrisky publicly acknowledged the financial support from several male celebrities, including Osimhen, Don Jazzy, actor Yhemo Lee, and socialite Abu Abel.
Bobrisky had previously stirred controversy by revealing that top female celebrities, including Tonto Dikeh and Funke Akindele, had collectively donated N18.7 million to him.
The revelation of the male celebrities’ donations, particularly Don Jazzy’s alleged N4 million, led to a backlash from fans who accused him of supporting the normalization of gay practices in Nigeria.
The criticism reflects a broader debate on social media regarding traditional values and celebrity endorsements.
