Afrobeats singer and producer Maleek Berry recently shared his experience with Davido during their early careers on the “90s Baby” podcast. Berry revealed that despite Davido’s wealthy background, he pretended to be poor while they worked together in the studio.
Berry recounted how, at that time, Davido had only around 4,000 YouTube views. Berry used to take him to a studio in Bermondsey, London, where they recorded together. They connected through one of Davido’s cousins on social media, and at that point, Davido was not widely known.
Berry was astonished when he later visited Davido’s father’s mansion. He described being surprised by the lavishness of the home, noting that Davido had acted as if he was just another ordinary guy. Berry said, “When I saw the mansion, I was like, okay, they’re rich.”
Berry also mentioned that Davido was instrumental in introducing him to Wizkid years later.
