Olaniyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, collapsed and passed away on Monday in Abuja after a meeting with other RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters. Reports indicate that the incident happened after Ijalaye returned to his hotel room following the meeting.
During the meeting, Ijalaye appeared to be in good spirits as discussions focused on the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, along with filling vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies. Ijalaye had been serving as Ogun State REC since March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
