National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has strongly criticized Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, for accusing him of orchestrating a break-in at the state high court to steal sensitive documents related to his ongoing corruption trial. Ganduje dismissed the claim as both absurd and unfounded.
Governor Yusuf’s administration has filed multiple corruption charges against Ganduje, including allegations involving $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribery against the former governor, his wife Hafsat, and their son, Umar.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje questioned Yusuf’s competence in managing Kano State’s security and judicial systems. He described the allegations as a desperate attempt to divert attention from the administration’s shortcomings.
Ganduje’s statement also questioned the logic behind the claim, pointing out that even if documents were stolen from the court, copies would still be with the government’s legal team.
“It’s laughable that governance in Kano has been reduced to such a farce, where the state government suggests that protesters broke into a court and selectively stole documents related to the APC national chairman’s trial,” the statement read. “In this digital age, such claims are nothing but pedestrian propaganda.”
Governor Yusuf had earlier stated that “enemies of the state” hired miscreants to vandalize the historic state high court during recent nationwide anti-hunger protests, specifically targeting the corruption case files against Ganduje.
Ganduje’s camp, however, dismissed these allegations as baseless, arguing that they reflect the state government’s growing incompetence. “The suggestion that crucial documents could be stolen during a protest is a clear indication of the state’s failure to maintain security and uphold the rule of law,” Olofu added.
The statement concluded with a call for calm, urging Kano residents to remain law-abiding as investigations continue. “Governor Yusuf must understand that the words and actions of leaders carry significant weight. We stand with the people of Kano and urge all well-meaning citizens to remain calm while the authorities carry out their duties.”
