UNICAL Pro Chancellor Praises NYSC for Uncovering Fake Graduates

DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd), the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for uncovering fake graduates who were fraudulently mobilized.

In a phone interview, Ekpoudom expressed his support for the NYSC’s efforts and pledged to address the issue within the institution.

The NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, had previously identified 101 individuals who were fraudulently mobilized from UNICAL between the 2021 and 2023 service years.

This action is part of a major crackdown on certificate fraud and aims to uphold the integrity of the national service program by preventing unqualified individuals from participating.

Ekpoudom confirmed that the university is conducting a thorough investigation to pinpoint the staff involved in the fraudulent mobilization and has vowed to impose appropriate sanctions on those found guilty.

“NYSC has done very well in this regard. We are trying to identify the staff involved to address the issue appropriately. The individuals are not students; they forged documents to secure employment.

“This is the first step. The next step is to uncover those behind this criminal activity,” he said.
