AIDS 2024: 15,000 Participants to Focus on Latest Trends in HIV Research, Treatment

Not less than 15,000 participants, including renowned scientists, have convened at the 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) to brainstorm on the latest advancements in HIV research and treatment.

Themed “Putting People First,” the conference features various sessions, workshops, and discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges in the global HIV response.

In her remarks at the conference, Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), emphasized the clear and proven path to ending AIDS, stating, “We cannot turn away when every minute, someone dies from AIDS-related causes.”

AIDS 2024 International Co-Chair Sharon Lewin highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting, “Progress happens when science, policy, and activism come together.” She stressed the need to work together to halt and reverse regressive laws and reductions in funding to innovate and ensure that all people living with HIV have access to quality care and treatment.

The International AIDS Conference is the premier global platform to advance the HIV response. As the world’s largest conference on HIV and AIDS, it sits uniquely at the intersection of science, advocacy, and human rights, bringing together scientists, policymakers, healthcare professionals, people living with HIV, funders, media, and communities.

Since its inception in 1985, the conference has served as an opportunity to strengthen policies and programs that ensure an evidence-based response to HIV and related epidemics.
