Super Falcons to Arrive in Bordeaux Today for Paris Matches

In preparation for their first appearance in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in 16 years, the 2004 quarter-finalists Nigeria are set to arrive in Bordeaux, France, on Thursday night.

The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, are part of an intriguing group that includes Brazil, Spain, and Japan.

The team will depart from Spain on an Air France flight, landing in Bordeaux shortly before 11 p.m. local time. Their delegation, comprising 18 players, four alternate players, and officials, will then head to their accommodation at Hotel Mercure, arriving just before midnight.

Having last participated in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing 2008, where they faced tough matches against Korea DPR, Germany, and Brazil, the Super Falcons aim to replicate their quarter-final success from Athens 2004. Women’s football debuted as a demonstration sport in Atlanta  1996, with Nigeria entering the tournament in Sydney 2000, encountering formidable opponents in China, Norway, and the USA.
