Fintiri charges newly elected council chairmen to focus on good governance

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has charged the newly 21 elected Council Chairmen and 226 Councilors across the state  to focus on good governance and serve responsibly.

Fintiri gave the charge on Monday, during the swearing in of the newly elected Council Chairmen in Yola Adamawa State capital.

This followed the declaration of results of the Saturday’s Local Council polls, and the presentation of certificates of return to the newly elected 21 Local Government Chairmen by ADSIEC.

The election’s result was announced on Sunday where the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, won all the 21 chairmanship seats and 225 councillorship seats while the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, got one councillorship seat.

The Governor praised the people of the state for continuously believing in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and voting overwhelmingly for the party during the council elections last Saturday.

Fintiri assured the newly elected officials that they must focus on good governance and serve the people responsibly, as the era of absenteeism and negligent is gone.

The Governor emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, urging the chairmen to shun corruption and be accountable to the people and    solicited support and prayers for them to serve better.

However, he congratulate the PDP , Council Chairmen and Councillors for a well deserved victory at the LGA polls held last Saturday in the state.

Earlier while presenting the certificates at the Commission’s Headquarters in Yola, the Executive Chairman of ADSIEC, Alhaji Mohammed Umar called on the chairmen elect to be good ambassadors of the electorate.

Umar urged them to render selfless and exemplary service that will engender democratic principles and good governance to the masses in their respective local government area councils and wished them God’s guidance in discharging their leadership duties and successful tenure in office.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues, the Executive Chairman elect for Ganye Local Government Area, Alhaji Farouq Mohammed thanked ADSIEC for ensuring a successful conduct of the election.

Alhaji Mohammed opined that the free, fair and credible conduct of the election has indicated that ADSIEC has given all political parties a level playing ground during the exercise.

He pledged that they will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate, to providing purposeful leadership to the people of their respective local government areas.
