Copa America 2024: Argentina Defeats Colombia to Secure Record 16th Title

Argentina successfully defended their Copa America title with a 1-0 victory over Colombia on Sunday night.

The Albiceleste clinched the win thanks to a late extra-time goal from substitute Lautaro Martinez at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Martínez, the tournament’s top scorer, received a through ball from Giovani Lo Celso and skillfully lifted his shot over advancing Colombia goalkeeper Camilo Vargas in the 112th minute.

This victory marks Argentina’s record 16th Copa América title, achieved without their star player, Lionel Messi, who sustained a non-contact injury in the 64th minute and was visibly upset while sitting on the bench.

With this win, Argentina has secured their third consecutive major title, adding to their triumphs in the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 World Cup.
