Delta CJ Urges Court Registrars to Expedite Case Files of Remanded Suspects

Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, issued a stern warning on Tuesday to Court Registrars to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law. Justice Diai emphasized the importance of ensuring that case files for remand suspects are sent to the Attorney-General’s office within three days.

This directive was given during her second quarterly visit to the state’s prisons, where she reviewed a total of 360 warrants and noted that no inmates were granted bail. However, four inmates at the Warri Correctional Centre regained their freedom during the visit.

The released inmates were Mr. Jeremiah Okotiebor, and Odotimade Lylon, both from Ozobo Town in Ijaw land, Umaru Abubakar, and Mr. Peter Okru.

Justice Diai praised the efforts of the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Anthony Orhorhoro, magistrates, correctional officers, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the visit.

Earlier, the Deputy Comptroller of the Warri Custodial Centre, Mr. Edo Lucky, informed the Chief Judge that the center now offers educational programs, allowing inmates to acquire primary and secondary school certificates while serving their sentences.
