Chaos Erupts in Yale/Sumal Company in Ibadan Due to Unpaid Palliatives

The Yale/Sumal Company in Oluyole, Ibadan, witnessed turmoil as employees staged a protest against the company’s refusal to disburse government-mandated palliatives.

Despite directives from the federal government last year for private sector companies to distribute palliatives to their workers and suspend tax payments for six months, Sumal Foods has reportedly not complied, unlike other companies.

Yale staff, facing economic strain exacerbated by high inflation, have demanded both the overdue palliatives and salary increases.

In response to their protests, the company deployed Police, Operation Burst, and civil defense forces, allegedly resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to several others.

The protests resumed this morning amid a heavy police presence, heightening tensions in the area.
