On Wednesday, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, refuted reports stating that the state is grappling with a cholera outbreak.
This comes after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) included Kano among the 31 states contending with the disease.
NCDC said about 1,141 cases were recorded between January and June 11, 2024, while 65 have been confirmed.
According to the agency, 1,288 cases have been recorded while a total of 34 deaths have been confirmed.
However, Abdullahi said the state’s medical records show that the state is cholera-free.
He said, “According to our findings so far, there is no cholera outbreak in Kano. We don’t have a single case as of now.
“We have seen some reports in the media but we can categorically tell you that there is none.”
