I inherited N359bn unpaid salary arrears from Ortom's Govt – Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has revealed that he inherited a whooping N359 billion owed workers of the state in the last couple of years.

Besides, the governor accused the last administration of failure to pay salaries to workers and lying to the people at the same time that the federal government denied his administration funds to pay workers.

Governor Alia revealed this yesterday at Okpoga during his thank you tour of Enone consisting of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.

The governor promised that his administration will continue to prioritize the payment of workers salaries and proclaimed that henceforth, civil servants in the state will be paid from 22nd of every month.

Governor Alia thanked the people for the confidence they repose in him to lead the state, with pledge to revive the Igumale cement factory and construct access roads in the area.

He said, “it is very important because if I want to travel with investors to the area, I should travel on a good road. Also, I will meet with the caretaker chairmen of the three local government areas and work out the modalities of constructing a road linking the areas.

“I see that Okpoga is in darkness, I will light it up with 5000 kw electricity. I have come to reduce your pains and suffering. Continue to support my administration and be patient with Mr. President, he has good policies for Nigerians.”

Erstwhile Senatorial candidate and chieftain of the APC in the area, Daniel Onjeh, challenged the governor to match actions with words by fulfilling his campaign promises to the people.

Onjeh said the opposition parties are mocking the people that he (Alia) has abandoned them in terms of infrastructures and appointments.

According to Onjeh, “The opposition is asking what you have done for Benue South. We want to see things manifest. Do not be distracted by the blackmail of the opposition”.

Acting chairman of the APC, Benjamin Omakolo said, the governor inherited a dead state and is working hard to bring it back to life.

Omakolo urged the people to rally support for the governor, and announced the defection of over 500 supporters of other opposition parties to the APC at the event.
