UPTH Clarifies: "Burna Boy Did Not Pay Medical Bills for All Patients"

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has debunked reports claiming that superstar singer Burna Boy covered all medical bills for patients during a recent visit.

Burna Boy had made headlines recently for his charitable acts in Port Harcourt, including paying some medical bills, giving away foodstuffs, and sponsoring a paid lunch worth N4 million at a popular market.

However, UPTH clarified that Burna Boy only settled the bills of selected patients, contrary to claims that he paid all outstanding bills. This clarification came after several blogs and news sites reported earlier in the week that Burna Boy had paid the hospital bills for all patients.

The institution’s spokesperson, Elabha Meni, released a statement in Port Harcourt on Friday to clarify the situation while applauding Burna Boy’s generosity.

“We commend Burna Boy’s kindness in financially assisting select patients in our hospital to offset their bills during his visit on June 11.

“However, contrary to reports stating that all patients’ bills in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations.

“The hospital did not receive direct payments from the musician and his team on behalf of patients to support this worthy course of reducing healthcare costs,” Meni stated.
