Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and its commercial hub, Lagos, have been ranked as the first and second cheapest cities for expatriates to live in Africa for 2024, according to Mercer’s Cost of Living rankings.
The report underscores that the cost of living is a critical factor for expatriates when choosing a city for relocation, as it affects their quality of life and financial stability.
The study attributes the affordability of Abuja and Lagos to currency depreciations, which have significantly lowered the cost of living for international assignees.
Following Abuja and Lagos, Blantyre in Malawi ranks third, while Durban in South Africa and Windhoek in Namibia are fourth and fifth, respectively.
