A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Hakeem Olalemi, has said that the speech delivered by President Bola Tinubu on the occasion of the June 12 celebration is evidence that the current administration has nothing to offer the country.
Olalemi in a statement said he is not surprised that the President cannot use an occasion to inform the people of his efforts in the last year to revive the economy of the country which has remained moribund under his watch.
He said: “We have listened to the broadcast made by President Bola Tinubu and we are compelled to pity the Nigeria masses because it is evident that the current administration has nothing in its covers to offer our country and by extension its citizens.
“It is not surprising that the President cannot use an occasion to inform the people of his efforts in the last year to revive the economy of the country which has remained moribund under the watch of the political party APC, which the President remains the leader since inception but rather he turned the occasion to a history lesson to justify his campaign slogan of Emilokan.
The speech remains an insult to the collective reasoning of the populace and evidence that this government has no bearing and not even a hold on the governance, not to mention of lack of the much-needed policy development, advocacy and implementation to cushion the adverse effects of its maladministration on the lives and daily living of the good people of this country Nigeria.
“The speech is empty, lacks direction and even devoid of the usual bogus promises which APC is known for. The President has clearly shown the nation that he does not understand the job of presiding over the country and definitely, he has no direction for our economic, social and not for our security challenges.
“The issue of the minimum wage which remains the only point raised in the speech was muddled up and rather than talking about fiscal responsibilities and reforms to ensure a living wage the President went on self praises of not intimidating the Labour Union for carrying out their constitutional duties of embarking on strike when their demands are not been considered. This is an evidence of coming high-handedness behaviour about to be displayed by this government over labour unions.
“Nigerians are currently going through the worst time of their lives and are groaning under lack of basic living needs. Food, clothing, housing, jobs and security have suddenly become luxurious and unavailable to citizens and the only solace from the President is an expression of understanding.
“The question remains whether the President or anyone closer to him slept hungry yesterday and not having hope for today which has become a daily occurrence even to those who are gainfully employed in the present economy under this administration.
“It is more disheartening that this government has no clue and is too proud to seek for help on how to revive and sustain the social economic system of the country.
“Nigerian is currently in limbo on what the government is doing to ameliorate their suffering and how to lift them from the current hardship they have been thrown through due to lack of understanding of governance system by the ruling APC government.
“It is our submission that the President and his team should seek help and stop trial and error governance tactics which have turned the government to the most corrupt and inconsistent in the history of our current democratic governance.”
