Coach Finidi George is planning a major clear-out of top stars in the Super Eagles due to a breakdown in team discipline and lack of commitment to the national team.
The Super Eagles coach has been far from impressed with how the players took their time to join camp for crucial matches, and team discipline has completely broken down.
A source close to the coach told only SCORENigeria, “Finidi will make major changes in the team. He is not happy with many things and has vowed to remove some of the players before they negatively impact the team.”
Finidi has expressed dissatisfaction with the players’ delayed arrivals at the training camp in Uyo for the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa. Many of the call-ups only got into camp in the new week, which was not up to the coach’s expectations.
An official explained to SCORENigeria, “All the players should have arrived by the weekend. The only exception would have been Ademola Lookman, who played for his club on Sunday. He is the only player affected by the nationwide pay strike that began on Monday.”
The breakdown in team discipline has also been a cause for concern. It has been reported that players are exhibiting unprofessional behavior while with the national team. “They are doing things that they would not even think of doing at their clubs in Europe,” a source revealed.
“This has been going on for too long, and this behavior has to stop now,” the source added.
