Buba Galadima, a leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has stated that it is unrealistic for the entire northern region to unite behind a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
In an interview with Sun, the former National Secretary of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) emphasized that in a democracy like Nigeria, voters have the freedom to choose different candidates.
When questioned about whether Northerners would support either Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or his NNPP counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Galadima responded: “We are not in the church; we are not in the mosque. Why should we speak with one voice?
“That is democracy. If you bring three people together, everybody has got a different way of thinking on how to solve a certain problem”.
The NNPP chieftain also alleged that the party’s votes in the 2023 general elections were suppressed.
“NNPP is doing very well because after the elections, we discovered that our votes were suppressed. Over five million of our votes were suppressed”, he said.
