Rescuers in the Obingwu community, Ukwa West LGA of Abia State have recovered the bodies of five workers who tragically lost their lives in a construction site accident. The victims were trapped when a three-story building under construction collapsed on them.
While the official cause of the building collapse remains undetermined, local sources in the community attribute the tragedy to the alleged use of substandard materials.
According to reports, most of the deceased were nationals of a West African country employed by a contractor.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing on the incident have been unsuccessful. Similarly, the Abia State Police Command has not issued any statements.
