The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have ended their industrial action due to a lack of agreement on a new minimum wage and an increase in electricity tariffs.
TUC President Festus Osifo made this announcement on Tuesday in Abuja following a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting of the unions. Osifo mentioned that a communique detailing the decision will be released shortly.
Both unions commenced their strike on Monday to express discontent over the surge in electricity tariffs and the absence of consensus on a new minimum wage.
As a result of the strike, vital sectors of the economy such as schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports were paralyzed. Additionally, the national grid was shut down, plunging the nation into darkness.
