Members of the Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage is meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting followed a five-day suspension of the nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Sources from Daily Trust indicated that the committee aimed to discuss the next steps with the President, particularly regarding the pledge to set the minimum wage above N60,000.
The team was also expected to brief the President on ongoing negotiations and seek his approval for a new offer to present to the labour unions as discussions resume.
Among those present at the meeting were Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, and CEO of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Melee Kyari. Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila was also in attendance.
The NLC and TUC had initiated an indefinite strike on Monday, significantly disrupting economic activities nationwide. In response, the leadership of the National Assembly met with the labour unions on Sunday night, urging both parties to find a middle ground and resolve the conflict.
