Electricity and water supply to the buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives have been halted by Nigerian workers, with reports indicating that other facilities within the National Assembly complex are affected.
This action follows the shutdown of the National Assembly by members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in compliance with the indefinite strike declared by organized labour.
PASAN has also blocked the entrance and exit gates of the assembly complex with two buses.
The strike stems from organized labour’s insistence on a minimum wage increase above N60,000, while demanding N494,000 from the government.
