Nigeria may be thrown into a nationwide blackout and continued fuel scarcity as National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG)have directed its members to comply with indefinite strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
The acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, Dominic Igwebike, in a notice seen by on Saturday, stated that electricity workers will be withdrawing their services from Sunday midnight for the organized labour’s indefinite strike slated for Monday.
He said: “The withdrawal of services becomes effective Sunday 2nd June by midnight.”
(NUPENG) has also directed its members to comply with the directive starting Monday.
In a statement issued by NUPENG’s General Secretary, Mr. Afolabi Olawale, the union expressed unwavering commitment to comply with the strike directive by the organized labour.
He said the union was concern over the government’s seeming disregard for the critical issue of negotiating a new minimum wage, especially given the adverse impact of various socio-economic policies on the country’s workers.
