At least four people were killed after rain-triggered landslides hit the eastern Indonesian province of West Papua on Sunday.
This was disclosed in a statement by the country’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Tuesday.
One person was rescued from the disaster site in the Arfak Mountains area using heavy equipment.
BNPB spokesperson Ahmad Muhari stated that the rescue operation had ended as all victims had been found.
However, the risk of further landslides in the Arfak Mountains remains high due to expected torrential rains in the coming days. Muhari urged rescuers to stay alert and advised locals to seek shelter in safe areas during heavy rains.
