After another standout season with Napoli, Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen has secured a spot in the 2023/24 Serie A Team of the Season, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Osimhen’s inclusion in the 23-man roster was announced on the official social media platforms of the Italian Serie A. Despite not replicating his prolific form from the previous season, where he clinched the Serie A top scorer title with 26 goals, leading Napoli to their first Scudetto in over 30 years, Osimhen still delivered solid performances considering Napoli’s struggles.
In a season marked by Napoli’s 11 losses and only 13 wins, Osimhen, who missed a month due to his involvement with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations, managed to tally 15 goals and three assists in 24 league appearances.
Although his performance was not up to his usual standard, Osimhen maintained his position as Napoli’s top scorer and the third-highest scorer in the league. Notably, only Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez (24 goals) and Juventus’s Dušan Vlahović (16) surpassed Osimhen in goal tally, both of whom also earned spots in the Serie A Team of the Season.
Osimhen’s Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also earned recognition in the prestigious lineup.
As Osimhen’s future remains uncertain amid links to various top European clubs, Sunday’s match against Lecce could potentially be his final appearance for Napoli.
Despite his stellar performances for Atalanta, Ademola Lookman did not make the cut for the Team of the Season, while Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan also missed out. However, Osimhen’s Napoli teammates Christian Pulisic, Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, and Rafael Leao joined him on the esteemed list.
