The Nigerian military has reopened the popular Banex Plaza in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja after a week-long closure.
According to Daily Trust, the plaza resumed operations around 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
We reported that the market was sealed by military authorities on May 18, following a violent clash between traders and military personnel.
The conflict began when thugs allegedly assaulted soldiers who had a disagreement with a trader at the plaza. The trader had reportedly sold a defective phone to a customer, who then called in the soldiers.
Although the police initially intervened to resolve the situation, the soldiers later returned and forced the immediate shutdown of the plaza.
Human rights activists, including Femi Falana, SAN, and various civil society organizations, had condemned the military’s actions.
