Gombe Woman Arrested by EFCC for Spraying N1,000 Notes

In a swift response to currency abuse, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Janty Emmanuel, a woman from Gombe, for publicly spraying N1,000 notes at a social gathering.

According to EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, Emmanuel was observed lavishly distributing cash at G-Connect in Tumfure, Gombe State, on Monday, May 20, 2024. The incident was recorded on video and rapidly circulated on social media, catching the EFCC’s attention.

Acting on this intelligence, EFCC operatives promptly detained Emmanuel for questioning. During interrogation, she confessed to the offense, attributing it to a moment of excitement and recklessness.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to combating currency abuse, stressing that such behavior undermines the dignity and value of the Naira and is punishable under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.

Emmanuel will face charges in court once investigations are concluded. If found guilty, she may be subject to a fine, imprisonment, or both.

This development follows a recent case involving celebrity crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison for a similar offense.
