Formation Doesn't Matter: New Super Eagles Coach Finidi George Declares

Newly appointed Nigeria senior national team coach, Finidi George, says he isn’t focused on formation as he prepares the team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

In an interview with Brila FM, monitored by us, the former Ajax winger discussed his philosophy ahead of the games.

He emphasized that his priority is the team’s style of play, rather than rigid formations.

George believes that understanding when to attack and when to defend, a trait of top teams like Manchester City and Arsenal, is more important than any specific formation.

“To me my philosophy is to win. To me formation is not that important because if players interpret when they want to attack and when to defend and they do it well.

” There will not be problems because we can play 3-5-2, 4-3-3 or 4-2-2, but if the players know when to attack and when to defend I

think will not have any problems. That is what Man City, Arsenal every team does but the difference is that players most recognize these moments and if they do they will definitely not have any problems”.
