Apa, Agatu Stakeholders Urge Nigerian Government to Address Insecurity

Stakeholders from Apa and Agatu local government areas of Benue State have urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to end the renewed attacks and killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in these areas.

This appeal was made over the weekend during security meetings convened by Hon. Pst Ojotu Ojema, the Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Standing Committee on National Inland Waterways, at the Och’Idoma Palace in Otukpo.

The lawmaker, disturbed by the persistent attacks and killings, organized separate security meetings with stakeholders from Agatu on Friday, May 17, and from Apa on Saturday, May 18, 2024, after returning from the United States of America.

In a unanimous resolution, stakeholders from both Apa and Agatu LGAs called on the Federal Government to promptly address the renewed insecurity, citing the loss of many lives and the destruction of properties worth billions of naira.

Ojema, in his speeches during the meetings, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their swift response despite the short notice. He emphasized that the continuous killings and destruction in the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency have defied all previous efforts and solutions, necessitating a new approach, which prompted him to convene the meetings.

A minute of silence was observed in honor of those who lost their lives, and prayers were offered for the security, peace, unity, and development of Apa and Agatu LGAs.
