The Nasarawa State Police Command has made significant strides in combating criminal activities along the Akwanga-Keffi-Abuja expressway by apprehending several members of an armed robbery gang commonly known as “One Chance.”
This development was confirmed in a statement by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesperson, detailing the arrest carried out by police operatives attached to Anguwan Lambu Division, Keffi.
According to the statement, identified as Ref: AZ:5250/NAS/PRD/VOL.2/70, the apprehended individuals are Chibuieze Orji, 52, and Jibrin Mohammed, 45. Preliminary investigations have revealed that these suspects typically masquerade as taxi drivers, luring unsuspecting passengers before diverting from their intended route and robbing them of valuables.
Subsequently, the victims are abandoned while the perpetrators make their escape. This modus operandi has been a cause for concern along the mentioned expressway, and the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in law enforcement efforts to curb such criminal activities.
“The suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime and said they have been operating for over 10 years and robbed a lot of people.
“They further stated that they were recently released from Shendam prison, Plateau State, for a similar offence after serving their prison term,” the statement reads in part.
Items recovered include a Toyota Carina II vehicle with registration number Abuja CO 212 ABC, one axe and a hammer.
Nansel added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered that, the suspects be charged to court for prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The CP assured members of the public that the command would be relentless in its fight against crime in the state and solicit their collaboration.
