Two members of the vigilante group at Ajayi Crowther University, located in Oyo State, have been arrested on suspicion of raping a female student of the institution.
The university’s management, represented by its Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, issued a statement on Saturday, May 11, 2024, announcing the initiation of an internal inquiry to investigate the allegations.
Atoyebi confirmed that the suspects had been handed over to the police and emphasized the institution’s commitment to ensuring severe penalties for anyone found guilty following a thorough investigation.
Assuring all stakeholders, Atoyebi underscored the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct capable of tarnishing its esteemed reputation.
“We were deeply shocked to receive a report of the alleged rape of one of our female students on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by two members of our vigilance group,” the statement read.
Prompt action was taken as the management promptly reported the matter to the police and initiated an internal inquiry to delve into the allegations.
A commitment to upholding standards was reiterated, with a focus on fostering a conducive environment for the development of morally upright intellectuals.
